Sage Grouse
Mottled brown, gray and black feathers on their top and sides and a black belly. Males 26-30 inches in length. Females 19-23 inches.
Blue Grouse
Blue-gray breast and belly. Males have slate-colered upperparts, females are brownish. males 18.5-22.5 inches. Females 17-19 inches
Grouse hunting begins in the golden mornings of September and the blue grouse season lasts until the snow is deep enough to limit acess to the grouses habitat in December. The exact moment of the flush and the roar of wings will always be a surprise.
Wyoming offers some excellent Grouse hunting. Bird numbers in our area on the rise, we have had some great springs and have more birds on the ranch each year. We hunt Sage Grouse and Blue Grouse.

Sage Grouse are notable for their elaborate courtship rituals. Each spring males congregate in leks and perform a "strutting display". Groups of females observe these displays and select the most attractive males to mate with. Only a few males do most of the breeding. Males perform in leks for several hours in the early morning and evening during the spring months. Lek generally occur in open areas adjacent to dense sagebrush stands, and the same lekking ground may be used by grouse for decades.
